Golfing Trends and Behavior in Mexico
The General Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) prepared the report ”Golfing trends and behavior in Mexico” in order to propose public and private strategies, and to take specific actions to encourage the development of products and services related to golf tourism in Mexico, the latter being defined as follows:
Mexican and foreign tourists traveling from their place of origin or residence to tourist destinations or resorts in Mexico for the purpose of playing golf and using the facilities available at each course.
In comparison with other sports, golf in Mexico has developed very little. It has not been a major source of revenue because of the few players and enthusiasts.
In the United States and Canada, golf is very popular and could even be considered as a national sport.
In Mexico, golf could easily be encouraged as a sport, bearing in mind that many people that visit Mexico are in fact golf enthusiasts.
